Chemical Reactions Lesson 2.3 Reread text (Breathalyzer, Arsenic, & Finger Prints) & chemical simulations.
Homework: Google Classroom- use the link to quizlet vocabulary to review & practice vocabulary. WE WILL HAVE A TEST NEXT WEEK! https://quizlet.com/95538526/chemistry-basics-pjhs-flash-cards/ You have to accept my invite to quizlet- it might be in Google Classroom OR in your SCHOOL EMAIL!

In Class we went over physical & chemical change. We watched baking soda & vinegar react and form new products.
In Amplify CHapter 2.2 we read about Chemical Reactions that Forensic Chemists use to gather evidence. Homework: GO to GOOGLE CLASSROOM & watch videos/ review concepts. Fill out chemical reaction form when done! In class we mixed glue and a borax mixture. What did we create? What happened? We completed 2.1
If AMPLIFY ISN"T WORKING: Read the scenarios below and then answer the question in the space provided. Scenario 1: A red liquid is poured over a white solid and clear bubbles are formed. Scenario 2: A yellow powder is mixed with a gray powder. The result is a yellow and gray powder. Scenario 3: A clear liquid is heated and disappears. ON BINDER PAPER: Did chemical reactions happen in any of the scenarios? Explain your reasoning. Be sure to use the following scientific vocabulary words you have learned in your response: product, reactant, chemical reaction, properties, simplest unit. In class we looked at molecules & atoms via a simulation to try and answer the question:
DO SUBSTANCES WITH THE SAME ATOMS HAVE THE SAME PROPERTIES? Homework is the house icon in 1.3 - you are writing a letter to a forensic chemist. IF Amplify isn't working do the folllowing on binder paper: Soon, you will be expected to provide a report answering the Chapter 1 Question: What is the red stuff in the water? Think about what information you would need about the pipes, contaminant, and red stuff in order to support or refute the claims below. Claims:
So far we have used learning.amplify.com to do the pre-assessment and Chapter 1 sections 1.1 & 1.2.
The homework was to click on the house in 1.2 and do the Simplest Unit activity. IN CLASS: Students worked on the Ecology Project Plan.
We also learned about food chains and food webs. During research time we tried to find food chains and food webs that anchored with the native plants we have researched. HOMEWORK: GO to GOOGLE CLASSROOM - There is an announcement for the Ecology Quiz with a link to a QUIZLET. These interactive flashcards will help you study. Be sure to play the GAMES: Scatter & Race! They are super fun! IN CLASS:
We checked lawn survey homework. Logged into Google Classroom for links to:
HOMEWORK: Four-square flashcards for biodiversity, native species, & alien OR non-native species In Class: Students reflected on research to estimate the biodiversity of the lawn study area.
We 'jigsawed' a website's content and shared the main idea, a quote, & 3 facts per group. Students then began researching flora and fauna with the eventual goal of designing new landscape. Homework: Four-square flashcards for- ecology, biotic, abiotic, biodiversity This week mystery tube projects were returned to students. If you want to improve your grade please redo and complete by next Friday.
In Class: Students continue their ecology unit by learning about survey techniques (line transects & quadrats).
Homework: Read the 'Lawn Habitat' handout & answer questions 1-10. Due Friday 9/11 & Monday 9/14 |
